Add your own APN settings manually

More specifically, the APN identifies the PDN (packet data network) with which a mobile data user wants to communicate. The APN is used in 3GPP data access networks, for example, GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), EPC (evolved packet core).

This type of access will only work if your smartphone has root, or else will fail!

1 – Locate the absolute path from your system.

Open a command promt in Windows and type.

mount | grep /system

The output from the above command will be something like.

/dev/block/mmcblk0p66 on /system type ext4 (ro,seclabel,relatime,data=ordered)
/dev/block/mmcblk0p66 on /sbin/.core/mirror/system type ext4 (ro,seclabel,relatime,data=ordered)

2 – Grant permission on that path

Path different, no problem! Just adjust the full path with your own.

sudo mount -o rw,remount /sbin/.core/mirror/system

3 – Check if the read and write permissions was added

mount | grep /system

The output from the above command will be something like.

/dev/block/mmcblk0p66 on /system type ext4 (rw,seclabel,relatime,data=ordered)
/dev/block/mmcblk0p66 on /sbin/.core/mirror/system type ext4 (rw,seclabel,relatime,data=ordered)

Don’t know the location from your apns-conf.xml file. No problem!

I don’t think that this command will work under windows. I’m using Linux terminal.

Locate your apns-conf.xml file.

locate apns-conf.xml

APN file from Vodafone, NOS and Otimus (Portugal)

By default this file (apns-conf.xml) will be availeble at /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
